An alien world that responds to human movement and gestures

The Museum of Colliding Dimensions

MoCD is a large-scale hybrid system designed to inspire collaborative performance in a colliding physical and virtual space. Deb combined VR with multi-projection mapping, motion tracking, responsive theatre lights, dynamic sound and computer graphics. Friends and strangers quickly learn how to collaborate to control the soundscape and lighting in the real world and the structure and colour of the Platonic Alien World.

Deb drew from her favourite art influences (in painting, sculpture), scientific theories (entanglement, meta/multiverses, quantum physics), experimental trance and techno music, and science fiction literature (of the 1960s-80s).

The work is a spectacle that invites visitors to imagine how we perceive and interact with competing realities as our lives become further enmeshed across digital and physical dimensions. It is also an exercise in activating mundane spaces into beautiful, playful, contemplative, and informative environments through careful collaboration.
