Novel Museum Interactions with the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Deb was commissioned to design novel interactions with Marvel Studios’ digital content for a major international exhibition.
Deb combined human factors and interaction design methods associated with game design, data modelling, and augmented reality to develop 11 installations including a hall of data games for visitors to explore the origins and connections between characters, storylines, artefacts and worlds; a room of 3D life-size animated portraits linked to motion sensors and featuring the unique behaviours of favourite characters (each portrait logged over 220,000 interactions each month); and an AR mobile app that recognised objects to load related film-scenes and trigger learning quests throughout the gallery and grounds, deepening their link between the familiar and the fantastic.
Deb delivered experimental works that were rigorous enough to withstand expert and fan scrutiny in continuous use and demonstrate how museums can benefit from game design expertise in curatorial practice.
